HONEST DEAD: SERIES OF SEVEN

ROLE:

Creative Director and Photographer

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

This series of photographs depicts the changes in the social development of the once-famous Honest Ed warehouse and Mirvish Village neighbourhood in Toronto, Canada. They are meant to provide insight into the different treatment of the particular area over the ages, from a once flourishing cultural neighbourhood to an abandoned haunting scene.

My intention with the piece was to provide an understanding of the importance of culture within the city, including historical preservation. The piece addresses the cultural and social issues of Toronto’s historical and cultural preservation efforts due to the inflated need for rapid urbanization.

With the use of lighting and colour enhancement I was able to create scenes of colourful yet haunting buildings that although seem to be full of life but when looked upon closer, have the sense of abandonment and emptiness.
